What is an Incontinence Nurse Assessment?

  • Review of medical history, including previous diagnoses and treatments related to continence issues.

  • Inquire about lifestyle factors such as diet, fluid intake, and physical activity.

  • Conduct a physical examination to check for infection, abnormalities, and muscle weakness.

  • Assess the individual's ability to control their bladder or bowel.

  • Evaluate the strength and coordination of relevant muscles.

  • Provide education on strategies to improve continence, such as pelvic floor exercises and lifestyle modifications.

  • Recommend specific products or devices for effective management of incontinence.

Continence nurse assessments offer personalized guidance and support for individuals struggling with bladder or bowel control issues, helping them manage and potentially improve their condition.
